Bigger Bone Syndrome

Good Morning Joes and Janes;

It is a bright and sunny day finally here in the Bitterroot Valley.  For some reason I had a really bad night with a headache that just kept waking me up and now I am barely functioning.  As I read up on comments to 5 G’s from followers I got to the one from Life of a Female Bible Warrior.  I really enjoy her posts and have decided to share her post from yesterday with you.  Called Bigger Bone Syndrome, I think it strikes home for most people in the  world but especially Americans raised in a consumer society.  As for me, I will admit that I can fall into the envy trap easily at some point every day.  Boy, I wish I had more time to sit and write like….. oops…there I go again.  Well enjoy the article and I will catch up to you tomorrow.

Regular Joe.

I like to reward my dogs with a variety of chewy treats, so I guess some might say that they are a little spoiled. At the cost of these canine delicacies, my animals are certainly being cared for with love. What I’ve noticed when I hand out the treats, though, is that each dog is initially oh-so-grateful and appreciative, but this doesn’t last too long.

 Most of them will begin chewing vigorously, holding the bone, chew stick, or rawhide, between their paws eagerly. This usually lasts all of about three minutes and then pairs of little eyes begin angling about, looking slyly to the right and left to see who has what in his or her mouth. Before you know it, it’s like musical bones!
Treats formerly cherished are now abandoned in hopes that one’s next door neighbor will drop theirs, and they do, because they are doing the very same thing! That neighbor’s treat is then scooped up and carted off to a private corner where it can now be enjoyed in quiet bliss…that is, until this strange scenario happens all over again after about fifteen minutes or so.
As I watched this phenomenon take place, I began to correlate thiswith human behavior, noting that we do the very same thing in our lives! How many of us actually appreciate what we’ve got? How many times have we eyed another person’s wife, husband, family, car, home, children, clothes, body, job, wallet, looks, personality, or whatever, with great envy and desire? How often have we silently wondered how what we have stacks up to or compares with what others have? How often do we lust after what someone else has instead of being content and really happy with our own?

God Wants Me to Be Happy

Good Morning Joes and Janes;

It’s a beautiful morning here in Montana although there is a possibility of rain latter.  The clouds that threaten the rain also provided a wonderful surface for the sun’s rays to reflect off red, orange, and violet hues.

This morning I was reflecting on a conversation with someone the other day.  He had recently decided to get divorced.  He said that he was a Christian, that his wife didn’t respect and honor him, (I sure that did not improve when he said he was getting a divorce), and that he was sure that God wanted him to be happy and had “the right soul mate for him out there somewhere”.

In a loving way I told him that I had to disagree with him.  I explained some of the verses of Scripture that contradicted his feelings.  He listened but I really don’t think he liked what he heard.  I haven’t been able to talk to him again in the last couple of weeks and have thought often about what direction he is going.  Don’t think that I am judging him harshly; in fact almost 20 years ago I was in a similar situation.  I had left my wife because I felt we just couldn’t get along any more.  I felt she wasn’t happy with me and nothing I could do, would please her.

I also felt “God wants me to be happy”.  After 2 years of separation, a lot of changing on both of our parts, and a lot of God’s intervention, we were reunited.  Now coming up on 40 years of marriage I look back on that time as a personal failure in my life.  But I also grew spiritually because of the events.

Was I happier because I left?  Well I thought so at times, but in the long run there are always high and low points, happy and sad times, mountain top experiences and dark valleys.  Is that what God’s goal and purpose for us is; to always be happy?

When Christ Jesus walked the earth was he talking with the disciples and counseling them, “don’t worry, be happy”?  I don’t find that when I read the Bible.  He did tell them not to worry several times but it was not tied to happiness.

Matthew 6:25 NIV

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

Matthew 10:19 NIV

But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say,

WHEN YOU ARE ARRESTED!  If Jesus wanted them to be happy why didn’t he just tell them how not to get arrested!  Romans were not known for their fine jail facilities with great food and accommodations.  And as for Matthew chapter 6; well I guess you will be more worried about your life and body after you are arrested and happy for whatever food you do get.

Last Days Part 6

Welcome Back From The Memorial Day Holiday;

Sunday evening I was catching up on the news with my usual news web sites and ran across a story from Florida that I couldn’t resist commenting on it.  I posted Zombie Attack in Florida around 9:30 on Sunday and before the midnight it had received 19 views with 14 more of my original Zombie Apocalypse.  Yesterday I received another 271 views and another 45 this morning.  My memorial day post got 20 views. I am not complaining really; it’s just that I wonder about people’s priorities.  I must also add that my regular readers are the important base and the ones that probably viewed the Memorial Day post while most of the Zombie views were search engine originated.  The only comment I received was from Nick who felt that I believed in Zombies and took my article seriously.

Well enough of that!  Today we are in part 6 of verses throughout the Bible using the term “last days”.  The last two verses are in James and 2 Peter.   James 5:1-6 talk is a warning to rich oppressors.

James 5:3 NIV

1 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you.
2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.
3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.
4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.
5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.
6 You have condemned and murdered innocent men,who were not opposing you. Read the rest of this entry

Heroes Should Be Remembered

Good Morning Joes and Janes;

I don’t have a devotional per se today but just some random thoughts on Memorial Day.  I have heard and read several “Happy Memorial Day” greetings.  That somehow doesn’t work that well for me.  Memorial Day is remembering those who died fighting to keep this country free and I for one feel more reflective, sad, grateful, humble, or a half-dozen other words and feelings but ‘happy’ is not very far up the list.

A bit of history;

A Brief History of Memorial Day: On May 5, 1868, Major General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic (an organization made up of Union Veterans) set aside May 30th as Decoration Day to commemorate fallen soldiers by adorning their graves with flowers. General Logan’s order declared: “We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance….Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.”

By the end of the 19th century, the observance of May 30th as a day to honor the Civil War dead had become a widespread practice across the nation, but after World War I, the tribute was expanded to include all American military men and women who had died in any war. Memorial Day has been acknowledged as a national holiday since 1971, when an Act of Congress established its observance on the last Monday in May.

In 2000, Congress passed the “The National Moment of Remembrance Act,” asking all Americans to pause at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence in remembrance of all those who have died in military service to America.

With no personal experience but much reading, I don’t believe that people die for their country. They often go to war for their country, to protect freedom and family and livelihood, but they usually die to save a buddy, a member of their unit or in protecting the military unit.  But that does not make them any less a hero!  They willing went into such a situation that they knew could cost them their lives.

Zombie Attack in Florida

Zombies Invade San Francisco!

My post Zombie Apocalypse continues to be one of the top three all time viewed posts on my site.  Not wanting to argue with success and finding the following news story on The Blaze yesterday I could not resist revisiting the Zombie topic in an unabashed use of real news twisted into another send up to Zombies and including gratuitous violence.

Miami Police Shoot and kill Naked Man ‘Eating’ Face of Another Man

Miami police shot and killed a naked man on Saturday whom witnesses said was eating the face of another man, the Miami Herald reported:

According to police sources, a road ranger saw a naked man chewing on another man’s face and shouted on his loud speaker for him to back away. Meanwhile, a woman also saw the incident and flagged down a police officer who was in the area.

The officer, who has not been identified, approached and, seeing what was happening, also ordered the naked man to back away. When he continued the assault, the officer shot him, police sources said. The attacker failed to stop after being shot, forcing the officer to continue firing. Witnesses said they heard at least a half dozen shots.

In the vein of thought that the moon landing was ‘faked’; what makes us think that the news media and police really want us to know what really happened?  Sure, blame it on cocaine!   The Herald printed that investigators believed it might be; “cocaine psychosis” — a “drug-induced craze that bakes the body internally and often leads the affected to strip naked and try to cool off.”  Yah, right,  I’ve seen the Zombie movies!  You and I know what is really going on here.

In ‘s story she quotes; Larry Vega said he witnessed the attack, writing to Local 10, “I stopped a City of Miami police officer and informed him that a homeless man was killing another person by biting and ripping his face to death.”

Vega also said, “The police officer confronted the aggressor, and he was like a rabid dog and confronted the officer. Then the officer shot the person four times.”

Note to police; every Zombie hunter knows only a brain destroying head shot will stop a Zombie.  Maybe Homeland Security needs to start Zombie Terrorist training program!

Then according to the reports they take the victim, in critical condition, to the hospital for treatment.  Probably no isolation ward, no guards so when he wakes up he starts eating others!  If you are  in a Miami hospital ….. RUN!

Catching up on the New Zombie Nation rag

Catching up on the New Zombie Nation rag

On a somewhat related thought; I was at the store the other day and my wife was looking at clothes.  No… I was in the magazine section!  I ran across a new magazine in the rack….had to buy it….Zombie Nation premiere issue.  You should be able to find it at the news stand in the gun section.  My wife says I’ve had my head buried in it since I got it.  Ignore the picture she took.

If you are into Zombies definitely spend the $8.99 (U.S and Canada)  There are some good articles on firearms and accessories and I had no idea so many serious manufacturers were jumping on the Zombie train with specialized products.  I had no idea EOTECH had a new site out with a bio-hazard  reticle.  Several of the articles are definitely translatable to home defence and then there are some tongue in cheek pages on Zombie attacks.

Given the problems in Miami it should be required reading for the Miami Police Department!

The centerfold is a tear out Zombie Nation Target Poster that I thought would look really great on the office wall….my lovely wife had a different opinion, but then I don’t think she believes in Zombies either.  I am thinking about putting it in the garage so I can scare the daylights out of myself if I go out there in the middle of the night.

Watch your back!

Regular Joe
